Who is responsible
Plain Sight News (plainsightnews.com) is responsible for the personal data processed on this website. You can reach us at any time through our Get in Touch page.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Contact form: when you send us a message, a news tip, a review or your own article, we receive your name, email address, the category you selected and your message. We use this only to read and reply to you, and to consider material for publication.
- Comments: if you comment on an article, we receive your name, email address, comment text, your IP address and browser information. Your name and comment are shown publicly; your email address is not.
Information collected automatically
- Visitor statistics: we use Jetpack Stats to see how many people visit, which articles are read, and roughly where readers come from. These statistics are aggregated — we do not use them to identify individual readers.
- Server logs: our web host records standard technical information such as IP addresses and pages requested, for security and troubleshooting.
- Advertising: we intend to display advertising through Google AdSense. When advertising is active, Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads and measure their performance. You can control personalised advertising in Google’s Ad Settings.
Why we may process your data (legal basis)
Under the EU/EEA General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we rely on: consent for non-essential cookies including advertising; legitimate interest for basic site security, spam prevention and aggregate statistics; and performance of your request when you contact us or submit material.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf: our web host (Namecheap), Automattic (Jetpack statistics, contact form delivery and Akismet spam filtering), and — once advertising is active — Google (AdSense). Some of these providers operate outside the EEA; such transfers rely on the safeguards those providers put in place, such as EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
- Contact form messages: kept as long as needed to handle your enquiry, and for submitted articles, as long as the material is under consideration or published.
- Comments: kept as long as the comment remains published.
- Statistics: kept in aggregated form.
Your rights
If you are in the EU/EEA you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw consent at any time, and to receive your data in a portable format. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In Norway this is Datatilsynet (datatilsynet.no).
Children
This website is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change — for example when advertising goes live — and the date at the top will always show the latest version.
