This page explains what cookies are, which ones Plain Sight News uses, and how you can control them.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device. It lets the site remember things between pages and visits — for example that you are logged in, or that you already answered the cookie question. Similar technologies such as local storage and tracking pixels work in comparable ways, and this policy covers those too.
The cookies we use
Strictly necessary
These make the site work and cannot be switched off. They include cookies that keep the site secure, remember your cookie choice, and — if you leave a comment — remember your name and email so you do not have to retype them. WordPress sets these.
Statistics
We use Jetpack Stats to understand how many people read our articles and which stories are useful. This tells us that an article was read — not who read it.
Advertising
Plain Sight News is funded by advertising. When Google AdSense is active on this site, Google and its partners may set cookies to deliver ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and measure whether ads work. Where required, these cookies are only set after you consent.
Spam protection
Akismet checks comments and form submissions for spam, which involves processing the submitted content and technical information such as IP address.
How to control cookies
- On this site: use the cookie banner to accept or decline non-essential cookies. You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site’s cookies in your browser and reloading the page.
- In your browser: every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, including blocking third-party cookies entirely. Look under Settings → Privacy.
- Advertising specifically: you can turn off personalised advertising from Google at Google My Ad Center.
Blocking non-essential cookies does not stop you reading anything on Plain Sight News. Every article remains free and fully available.
